How Often Should I Have an Eye Exam?

The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends following this eye exam schedule:

Ages 19-64: Once every two years
Ages 65 & over: Once per year

However, if you have a pre-existing medical or eye condition, a family history of eye disease, or another eye care issue, your optometrist may recommend more frequent testing.

Our Eye Exam Process

We’ll walk you through our exam process so you know what to expect and can play a proactive role in your eye care.

Medical History

We will begin by discussing your previous and current medical history, including medications and family history of diabetes, glaucoma, or any other eye conditions. We will review your health with you and discuss if you are experiencing any current eye issues or have areas of concern.

Testing

We will start by conducting a visual acuity test (reading the eye chart) and perform a detailed refraction diagnosis to determine your current prescription. Using only the highest quality equipment, we will then examine the delicate inner structures of the eye, including the optic nerve, retina, lens, and cornea, to assess eye health and rule out any eye diseases.

Prescription Changes

If your prescription has changed, we will discuss the possibility of contact lenses or glasses. We will be sure to discuss all of your options and the brands we carry, so we can find a clear vision solution that meets your needs and lifestyle.
